Amanda Zuckerman never ceases to surprise us with her slew of insensitive comments on Big Brother. This
past episode was no different, yet it still amazed us all the same.
Zuckerman had an unnecessary freak out over her headband and proceeded
to grace the house with these words, "She wore my f**kin head band and
didn't ask. She took it off your head and put it on her
greasy-ass, nappy-hair head." Wow.
The only comedic part of these comments is Zuckerman's complete
ignorance of them. Zuckerman has no problem calling out the other
racists in the house, and how their comments will eventually have a
negative affect in their house standing. She also claims she's not
racist because she has a black cousin. Classic.
Big Brother is facing intense criticism for the
abundance of racial slurs that are said on the show by its contestants.
Just last week, contestant Aaryn Gries was released from her modeling
agency due to her outrageous commentary. However, there's nothing CBS
can directly do since it's a reality tv show by nature. CBS has
responded with this statement: "Big Brother' is a reality show
about watching a group of people who have no privacy 24/7 -- and seeing
every moment of their lives. At times, the Houseguests reveal prejudices
and other beliefs that we do not condone. We certainly find the
statements made by several of the Houseguests on the live Internet feed
to be offensive. Any views or opinions expressed in personal commentary
by a Houseguest appearing on 'Big Brother,' either on any live feed from
the House or during the broadcast, are those of the individual(s)
speaking and do not represent the views or opinions of CBS or the
producers of the program.”
However, the host, Julie chen, addresses these racist sentiments
during her conversation with the African-American contestant, Howard
Overby, after he had been booted from the house. Chen has previously
shared her opinions on the racist commentary in the house, and she
pressed him as to why he didn't face the situation head on. Overby
responded by saying, "I chose to take the high road. Let them have that,
I'm not going to dip down to their level".
